History: MAAL Wines was born from a friendship fueled by a common passion for viticulture and Malbec. In 2010, a micro-vinification of six grape barrels from an abandoned vineyard in Vistaflores gave rise to this project. In 2013, Alfredo Merlo and Matias Fraga’s passion for making Malbec became more serious and MAAL Wines was officially born. Based on sustainable practices, MAAL Wines’ mission is to produce only Malbec wines that are expressive with character and that reflect a balance between the soul of a vineyard and the personality of the viticulturists. The name biolento is a play on words combining “bio” (organic) and “violent” (violent). Biolento honors the small insects that attack the vineyard, and that pose the greatest challenge to sustainable agriculture.

Tasting Notes:

“Bright ruby ??red. Initially a little fresher on the nose than “Biutiful”, offering aromas of dark raspberry, blueberry, dark chocolate and violet, but the maturation of the chocolate intensifies with air. Dense and smooth, with the flavors of dark berries, licorice, menthol and dark chocolate that have enough energy to last a while. Finishes with a soft dusting of tannins and very good persistence. No easy sweetness here, but no harsh edges either. A more medicinal and backward style than the ‘Biutiful.'” –Vinous
