History: Domaine Henri Boillot is known around the world for its high-end Puligny-Montrachets and Volnays. The estate has set itself a firm objective: to make wines that express the essence of the local vineyards and their distinctive microclimates. The Boillot family have been growing wine on Burgundy’s Côte de Beaune since 1885. Henri Boillot began working at the estate in 1975 and took over the running of the business a short time later. Under his guidance, the estate has gained an outstanding reputation and won the right to be regarded among the absolute crème de la crème. Henri now shares responsibilities with his son Guillaume, who has been making the red wines since 2012. Guillaume has subtly wrought his own style into the vinification process, revealing the very best of the terroirs, especially in Volnay. The Boillots own plots in the prime vineyards of Puligny, Meursault, Beaune, Volnay and Savigny. Father and son take a sustainable, balanced approach to farming these crus and favour organic interventions wherever possible. The property’s globally acclaimed wines have legendary ageing potential, marrying restrained elegance and great finesse with tremendous freshness and reverberating minerality.
Tasting Notes:
“A glowing pale yellow. Super-concentrated if not yet very yielding bouquet. Extra tension here, certainly some depth, but perhaps more in class than power. That will change with time – the class with remain but the depth will expand. White fruit, tension, some youthful bitters, but keeping itself to itself for the moment.” – Jasper Morris
