Composition: 58% Merlot, 21% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot, and 4% Malbec

History: Before Cabernet Sauvignon, there was Cabernet Franc. Long prized for its spicy aromas and nimble energy, this elegant grape was in fact the genetic parent of Cabernet Sauvignon. Winemaker Christopher Carpenter captures the rich complexity of this distinguished variety with Caladan. Caladan showcases an elegant synthesis of Cabernet Franc and Merlot that reveals the utterly unique essence of four Napa Valley mountain appellations: Spring Mountain District, Howell Mountain, Diamond Mountain District and Mount Veeder. The smaller proportion of Merlot reinforces the support structure and gives breadth to the fresh and silky aromas of the wine.
