History: The origins of the place called Caparzo are still unknown. According to some people, the name is derived, as old maps show, from Ca’ Pazzo; according to others, the term should derive from the Latin Caput Arsum, which indicates “a place touched by the sun”. Caparzo’s story dates back to the late 1960s at the dawn of Brunello di Montalcino, when a group of friends, from Tuscany and wine, bought an ancient ruin with vineyards in Montalcino. The farm was renovated, modernized and new vineyards were planted. In a short time, Caparzo made himself known in the Brunello market. In 1998, 30 years later, when the first vines were planted, the estate reached a turning point when Elisabetta Gnudi Angelini bought Caparzo. With the help of his son Igino and his daughter Alessandra, he immediately achieved his goal: to combine tradition with innovation to create a high-quality wine that is an expression of an excellent territory. Caparzo produced his first vintage of Brunello di Montalcino in 1970 when the situation in Montalcino was very different from today. At that time, there were only 13 wineries in Montalcino, and this makes Caparzo one of the historic producers of Brunello.

Tasting Notes:

“Aromas of black fruit, dried leaves, and hints of cedar continue into a medium to full body, a solid core of fruit and chewy tannins, and a savory finish.” – James Suckling
