Region: Brunello di Montalicino DOCG, Tuscany, Italy

Vintage: 2011

Composition: 100% Sangiovese

History: The origins of the place called Caparzo are still unknown. According to some people, the name is derived, as old maps show, from Ca’ Pazzo; according to others, the term should derive from the Latin Caput Arsum, which indicates “a place touched by the sun”. Caparzo’s story dates back to the late 1960s at the dawn of Brunello di Montalcino, when a group of friends, from Tuscany and wine, bought an ancient ruin with vineyards in Montalcino. The farm was renovated, modernized and new vineyards were planted. In a short time, Caparzo made himself known in the Brunello market. In 1998, 30 years later, when the first vines were planted, the estate reached a turning point when Elisabetta Gnudi Angelini bought Caparzo. With the help of his son Igino and his daughter Alessandra, he immediately achieved his goal: to combine tradition with innovation to create a high-quality wine that is an expression of an excellent territory.

Tasting Notes:

Penetrating, wide and very complex nose, with echoes of forest fruits. On the palate it is dry, warm, solid and harmonious, combining delicacy, austerity and persistence.
