Composition: 48.7% Merlot, 43.2% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 8.1% Cabernet Franc

History: Approximately 2000 years ago, the virtues of these tiny quartz pebbles called gravels were discovered. The earliest written mention that we have discovered yet, specifically speaking of a wine produced from these very soils, dates back to 1521. When he purchased Château Haut-Brion in 1935, Clarence Dillon restored it to its former glory and to the elite circle of the most legendary wines in the world. This extraordinary, bold, courageous vision is now continued by the fourth generation of the family, represented by Prince Robert of Luxembourg, Chairman and CEO since 2008. Located in the town of Pessac, just a few kilometres from Bordeaux, Château Haut-Brion – the first of the three estates acquired by the Dillon family – is the oldest wine growing property in the region.

Tasting Notes:

Superb deep crimson colour. At first, the bouquet is both subtle and intense, with ripe fruit notes. The aromatic complexity of this wine comes to the fore with aeration. Starts out wonderfully smooth and delicate on the palate, becoming full-bodied yet never aggressive. The tannins are tight-knit, subtle and alluring, with no hardness whatsoever. The finish is long and aromatic. Haut-Brion surprises once again by achieving the perfect complementarity of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.
