Region: Pauillac, Bordeaux, France

Vintage: 2010

Composition: 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot

History: The Pichon Longueville estate has been in existence since 1688-1689. In 1850, Virginie de Pichon Longueville, Countess de Lalande and her two sisters inherited three-fifths of their father’s vineyard. This took the name of Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande. In 1978, May-Eliane de Lencquesaing, daughter of Edouard Miailhe, in turn inherited this beautiful property and dedicated herself entirely to continuing the tradition of quality wine. Only two families have been responsible for maintaining the excellent reputation of this wine for three centuries. The second cru Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is located in the southern part of Pauillac, near Saint-Julien.

Tasting Notes:

“This is a nuanced style of wine that grows on you over time in the glass, and the Merlot component gives it a more supple, seductive texture. Cream of cassis, black raspberries, spring flowers, leafy herbs, and lead pencil notes flow into a full-bodied, pure, seamless beauty that builds in the mouth, has fine tannins and a grand finish. As elegant as they come, it will continue to impress for two to three decades” – Jeb Dunnuck
