History: For five generations, the Laroche family has produced top-quality wines in the Chablis appellation, and today Domaine Laroche ranks among the most prestigious winemakers in Burgundy. The origins of the winery go back to 1850, when a vineyard worker, Jean-Victor Laroche, bought a small plot of vines. Three generations of modest expansion were followed by a boom in the 1960s when father and son Henri and Michel Laroche greatly expanded their holdings in the region. Over the past three decades, the winery has flourished under the guidance of Michel, whose commitment to the authenticity and purity of Chardonnay has popularized the Laroche wine and brand around the world. Domaine Laroche participates in a large-scale sustainability approach that involves organic viticulture, taking into account the relationship between the vine, the soil, the climate and the environment. At the winery, we use the same simple principles: minimal treatments, reduced energy consumption, and use of rainwater.
The King of Chablis Grands Crus, revealed by the “savoir-faire” of Domaine Laroche, has an intense minerality and exceptional finesse. This vineyard was previously completely surrounded by walls, hence the name “Les Clos”. We know from historical sources that the monks of the Abbey of Saint Martin of Tours planted vines here in the 9th century.
Tasting Notes:
“Bouquet of crunchy white peach, lemon oil and citrus blossom. On the palate, the wine is medium to full bodied, bright and delicately textural, with a deep core and vibrant acids, concluding with a stony, almost saline finish.” – Wine Advocate
