Region: Columbia Valley, Washington

Region: 2021

Composition: 100% Sauvignon Blanc

History: Budbreak, bloom, and veraison were early in 2021. Bloom occurred during hot and windy conditions creating small clusters and a light crop. The harsh heat dome events of late June had varying effect on yields. Varietals such as Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Chardonnay were significantly delayed while Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Sauvignon Blanc seemed to mature on a more typical timeline. Although these high temperatures allowed for higher sugars, flavor development and phenolic ripeness lagged. Acidity was relatively low compared to average. Patience was rewarded to those who waited for harvest, as cool Fall temperatures allowed for flavor to catch up while sugar accumulation plateaued.

Tasting Notes:

“Aromas of pear, peach and fresh pineapple. Medium-bodied with fresh, stony-mineral character. Bright. Stone fruit and tropical fruit drive the palate, with herbal and peppery
complexity. Nicely composed and long. Drink now.” – James Suckling
