Region: Champagne, France

Composition: 54% Chardonnay and 46% Pinot Noir from Premier and Grands Crus

History: The house was founded in 1825 by father and son François-Alexandre and Joseph Perrier. Joseph turned the establishment on the “avenue de Paris” into a house of knowledge and experience. His signature has been carried out by six generations of the same family, each one marking the history and destiny of the House in a different way. Currently run by Jean Claude Fourmon and his son, Benjamin, this house is the only Champagne maker in Châlons-en-Champagne today. Our Champagne has been a part of history many times and was chosen for the royal courts of Queen Victoria and Edward VII. In 2019, winemaker Natalie Laplaige received the “Les Thophees Champenoise Winemaker of the Year” award.

Cuvée Joséphine celebrates the moving story of Joseph Perrier, a father who, on the occasion of his daughter Josephine’s wedding, offered her the best Champagne he could make. For that occasion he designed the most beautiful bottle painted by hand and decorated with fine gold. The cuvée, named after Joséphine and celebrating our history, has only been produced in the years 1982, 1985, 1989, 1990, 1995, 1998, 2002, 2004 and 2008.

Tasting Notes:

The nose opens with intertwined fresh and sweet notes. A succession of captivating aromas suggests great complexity: butter, sweet spices, dried fruits and candied fruits. Mineral freshness predominates. In the mouth there is an intense and finely fruity vinous expression. The balance is perfect. Flavors of spices, dried fruit and candied citrus dominate within a tense mineral framework.

Awards: 96pts Decanter, 94pts Wine Enthusiast, and 92pts Wine Spectator
