History: Keever Vineyards is a small, family-owned winery in Yountville, in the Napa Valley. And when we say family owned and operated, we mean it. On any given day there are between two and four guards on the site. During the processing of the fruit, we also enter aunts and uncles. Dad, Bill Keever, does a lot of everything from washing barrels to delivering wine. Mom, Olga Keever, runs the office, works with distributors, and makes sure all of our compliance obligations are met. Son, Jason majors in production. Daughter, Ashley Keever is the Director of Hospitality and Liz Wilkens is the Founder and Director of the Keever Vineyards Wine Society. Ashley and Liz welcome visitors who come to taste our wines and tour the cellar and cave. Their true titles should be Charisma Directors. Winemaker Celia Welch calls the shots, and Jason makes sure everything is done in a way that ensures the highest quality and that no detail, however small, is overlooked. Our first vintage was 2002 when we made 46 cases. A few years later, the Keever brand had achieved moderate recognition, and based on that we decided to build our cellar and dig our cave.
Tasting Notes:
The Keever Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon displays its signature aromas of bright cherry and raspberry mixed with dark chocolate and sweet earth tones, but this vintage also displays a lovely dark tart blueberry note and just a hint of sassafras. On entry, the structure of the wine gives an impression of weight and concentration, but the tannins show restraint and resolution, giving a sense of age at one moment and short-term delicious qualities. As the flavors fade, the wine’s lingering presence displays a beautiful combination of bright fruit and subtle salty qualities.
