History: The first wine Heidi made for La Sirena began as a chance opportunity: a custom crush wine for a failed client. She had been hired to make Sangiovese during the 1994 vintage for a new brand, but found herself in a conflict of interest situation with her family, who had other ties to the winery. The wine was already made and quite delicious, but the client had to abandon the project. They were going to put the wine on the bulk market and she thought, “This is my chance”.

Tasting Notes:

The Malbec from La Sirena is a deep ruby color, with an enticing pure nose of dark fruit aromas (blueberry, blackberry, currant), accented with notes of spice, dark chocolate, and an earthy note reminiscent of bark. Across the palate it is velvety and extremely well balanced. Great acid in the mid palate keeps it bright and lifted while still being quite rich and dense. A sultry, inky wine that isn’t quite ‘brooding’ – pensive, perhaps? Medium tannin provides texture and body, and the lingering finish will leave you wanting more of this delicious and unique Malbec.
