History: The first wine Heidi made for La Sirena began as a chance opportunity: a custom crush wine for a failed client. She had been hired to make Sangiovese during the 1994 vintage for a new brand, but found herself in a conflict of interest situation with her family, who had other ties to the winery. The wine was already made and quite delicious, but the client had to abandon the project. They were going to put the wine on the bulk market and she thought, ‘This is my chance to start my own winery, maybe I could buy it!

Tasting Notes:

The Pirate is a deep ruby red color with open aromas of ripe fruit – plums and cherries – with complex notes of savory spices, vanilla, toasted French oak, cardamom, and olive tapenade. Delicious, round, and silky smooth across the palate with seamless, layered flavors and barely-there structural tannins.
