Region: Napa Valley, California

Vintage: 2016

Composition: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon

History: Established in 1993, the Spring Mountain District appellation is located above the city of St. Helena on the eastern slopes of the Mayacamas Mountains, which separate the Napa Valley from Sonoma County. First brewed in 2005, Lokoya Spring Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon comes primarily from three vineyards: the estate-owned Yverdon Vineyard (2,100 feet), Wurtele Vineyard (1,000 feet), and Spring Mountain Vineyard (1,800 feet). Cool daytime temperatures, poor soil, and steeply sloping vineyard terraces combine to create the ideal growing conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon. Spring Mountain wines express a distinctive floral perfume, deep red fruit flavors, and smooth tannins.

Tasting Notes:

“Deep garnet purple in color, the nose is a bit closed to start, slowly unfurling to reveal earthy/rocky aromas over a core of blackcurrants, blackberries and mulberries with emerging hints of pencil lead and green peppercorns. Medium to full bodied, the palate has a rock-solid frame of firm, grainy tannins and a bold freshness with plenty of mineral hints intertwined with the black fruits, finishing long with some evocative floral notes.” – Lisa Perrotti Brown
