History: In 1971, Lupe was working for Sterling Vineyards when Peter Newton offered her the opportunity to join him in creating a new winery in the Spring Mountain district of St. Helena. Lupe’s dedication and hard work were beginning to pay off; he was named vineyard manager for Newton Vineyard. With Newton, Lupe found a home where she proudly devoted all her energy for over thirty years. In 1999, her son Hugo took over as manager of the Vineyard when Lupe planned to retire. Lupe began dedicating her three decades of viticultural knowledge to her grapes. He purchased a 10-acre piece of land in the more incredible stretches of southern Napa Valley, in Jamieson Canyon, which he developed into his vineyards. Lupe lives in the middle of the vineyards that he planted and takes care of. Lupe and her son Hugo graduated in Viticulture and Oenology from the University of California at Davis, and their families are partners in the project. They farm the vineyard together, oversee the entire winemaking project, and run a small vineyard management company.
Tasting Notes:
This elegant cabernet resonates with the care and time bestowed upon the vineyards from which it comes. Impressive aromas of Vanilla bean, ripe macerated red fruit, and anise invite you to take the first sip. A mouth-filling entrance of rich loganberry, earthen spice, fresh tobacco leaf, and walnut. A lasting medium-firm finish that guarantees a promising age-worthy cabernet that will only improve with time.
