History: In 1971, Lupe worked at Sterling Vineyards when Peter Newton offered her the chance to join him in creating a new winery in St. Helena’s Spring Mountain district. Lupe’s dedication and hard work began to pay off; he was named vineyard manager at Newton Vineyard. With Newton, Lupe found a home where she proudly devoted all her energy for over thirty years. In 1999, her son Hugo took over as vineyard manager when Lupe planned to retire. Lupe began to dedicate her three decades of viticultural wisdom to her own grapes. He purchased a 10-acre parcel in the cooler stretches of southern Napa Valley, in Jamieson Canyon, and developed it into his own vineyards. Lupe lives in the vineyards he planted and tends. Lupe and her son Hugo graduated from the University of California, Davis, with degrees in Viticulture and Enology, and their families are partners in the project. They farm the vineyard together, oversee the entire winemaking project, and run a small vineyard management company.

Tasting Notes:

Maldonado’s Rose has a unique aroma of cherry, apricot, and soft vanilla. With a lively and refreshing taste by the first sip, the Rose has an impressive entrance of white nectarine, quince, and strawberry rhubarb preserves playing on the palate. Delightfully crisp!
