History: The history of the Massolinos and their wine was intertwined with the history of Serralunga d’Alba in 1896, when Giovanni Massolino founded the estate. An enterprising, tenacious and creative man, Giovanni was the first person to bring electricity to the town. Giovanni’s son, Giuseppe, built the first Massolino winery, expanded the estate to the best soils, and in 1934 founded the Consortium for the Defense of Barolo and Barbaresco. Three of Giovanni’s sons later followed in his footsteps, expanding the estate with the purchase of gem cru vineyards: Margheria, Parafada and Vigna Rionda. In the nineties, Franco and Roberto, both winemakers, joined the family farm. His work condenses the experience of an entire family and the ambition of a new generation, determined to make an important contribution to the innovation of oenological and agronomic techniques and to the image of the estate in Italy and abroad. Massolino makes wine with passion in its land of origin, preserving the typical characteristics of the native grape varieties. At the core of the winery’s philosophy, and epitomized by its sustainable practices, is the conviction that there is a deep and tangible link between the vines, the hills and the viticulturists, whose connection and affinity with the land deepens. with each passing year.
Tasting Notes:
“Showing hints of iodine, dark mussels, walnuts, dark stones to the fleshy dark cherries and plums. Then it turns a little “bloody,” minty and tarry on the nose. “Dark” and full-bodied with a massive amount of small-grained tannins seamlessly knitting the fruit on the palate, driving it to a very long, mineral finish. Very tight and powerful now, yet seductively rich and full of flesh, too.” – James Suckling
