History: Founded in 1906 by Luigi Nervi in Gattinara, Nervi-Conterno is the oldest continuously operating winery in the Gattinara DOCG zone, cultivating Nebbiolo—known locally as Spanna—in the region’s volcanic porphyry soils. The estate preserved traditional winemaking through Alto Piemonte’s postwar decline and later passed through several owners, including an employee group, steel magnate Germano Bocciolone, and Norwegian investor Erling Astrup. In 2018, Roberto Conterno acquired a controlling stake and later became sole owner, bringing together Nervi’s historic high-altitude vineyards, including Molsino and Valferana, with his traditional approach of long macerations and aging in large Slavonian oak botti, without fining or filtration.

Tasting Notes:

It features notes of cherry, strawberry, orange peel, rose, and crushed flowers, complemented by hints of chalk, mint, white pepper, and subtle mineral and iron nuances, all leading into a long, savory finish with a lingering touch of salt.
