Region: Uco Valley, Mendoza, Argentina

Composition: Malbec

History: Tinto Negro celebrates the essence of Malbec in Mendoza. Known for its dark, black color, Malbec is definitely a black red. The Tinto Negro portfolio explores the Mendoza terroir where Malbec shines, gradually isolating unique vineyard sites and winemaking techniques, and showcasing the heights of concentration and complexity Malbec can aspire to. Tinto Negro was born from the long friendship and professional collaboration of Alejandro Sejanovich and Jeff Mausbach. Bodega Catena Zapata colleagues for nearly 15 years, Alejandro was Vineyard Director and Jeff was Director of Wine Education. Old Malbec vines planted in 1955 in the La Consulta district of San Carlos County at the southern end of the Uco Valley sit at an altitude of 3,000′. The deep, twisting rooted vines produce small isolated clusters with tiny berries.

Tasting Notes:

“The wine is dark in color, with a spicy and intense nose of ripe cherries, baking spices and a lactic touch. On the palate it shows natural concentration and balance with round and sweet tannins, a sense of harmony and an acidity refreshing, finishing long and supple.” – Robert Parker

Awards: 93 Pts Robert Parker, 91 Pts Wine & Spirits
