History: Villa Russiz has long been considered one of the best wineries in Friuli, as well as one of the most philanthropic in the world. The estate was founded in 1869 by the French-born Count Théodor de La Tour, who brought to the region the best clones he could find in his native country, selecting the classic varieties best suited to Collio’s unique terroir. Its vineyards were the first in the region to be planted with authentic French grafts: Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Cabernets, Pinot Noir and Riesling. The Count was a brilliant farmer ahead of his time and grafted European vines onto American rootstocks to combat certain grapevine diseases, such as phylloxera, which were destroying European vineyards. While the count broke new ground with his vineyards and winemaking, his wife, Countess Elvine de La Tour, was equally tireless in her philanthropic endeavors: caring for orphaned and homeless girls. The work he started was carried out in the 20th century, and after World War I the estate was donated to the Italian state to be maintained as a non-profit organization, Villa Russiz Foundation. A house on the estate’s grounds for underprivileged and orphaned children is financed by the sale of the estate’s wines. Les Enfants IGT is a wine made as a testament to their commitment to the children of Italy. Sustainable viticulture.

Tasting Notes:

Greenish straw yellow with delicate and aromatic aromas. Exotic fresh fruit: pineapple, peach and sage. A wine with an elegant and velvety flavor, full-bodied and easy to drink.
