Region: Napa Valley, California

Vintage: 2015

Composition: 93% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Merlot

History: In 1886, a fearless Victorian widow who could often be seen riding a horse, Josephine Tychson built and operated the original winery on our estate, farmed the land, and became Napa Valley’s first registered winemaker. In 1939, in southern California, three businessmen bought Lombarda Cellars, combining their names: Charles Freeman, Marquand Foster and Albert “Abbey” Ahern at Freemark Abbey. In 1976, one of twelve American wineries chosen to compete in “The Judgment of Paris” blind tasting, Freemark Abbey is the only winery with a red and white wine represented. California wines win in every category, catapulting Napa Valley onto the world stage. In 1985, Ted Edwards became the winemaker. After three decades at the helm of Freemark Abbey, Ted is one of California’s leading winemakers, saying “I remain a passionate student of viticulture, always learning about regions, climate, soils, varieties and new techniques.”

Tasting Notes:

The nose displays aromas of black cherry, mocha, cassis and forest floor. On the palate it is bright yet creamy and full of notes of berries, leather, baking spices and smooth vanilla. The textures are vibrant and integrated making this wine lovely now with the ability to age for decades in the cellar.
